Where I’m Going

#WalkMYWORLD (1)This Learning Event’s Summary is sharable:

#WalkMyWorld #LE8 – Where I’m Going. What does the future have in store for you? Capture and express this #soulselfie

Welcome to Learning Event #8 (#LE8) for #WalkMyWorld 2016.

Over the last two learning events, we teamed up with our friends from the #hearmyhome project. In these activities, we focused on the sounds around us, and in between spaces.

In this next learning event, we’ll move on from our discussions about where you’re from, and what it sounds like…and start thinking about where I’m going.

Take into consideration

Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards. ― Søren Kierkegaard

On a daily basis, we’re buffeted by the trials and tribulations that life has in store for us. We all deal with these challenges in our own ways. Some of us internalize it and hunker down. Some of us ignore it and move on. Some of us…realize that we are awesome.

Poet and storyteller Sekou Andrews captures this mindset in his piece, The Awesome Anthem.

In The Awesome Anthem, Sekou reminds us that we have a choice in the decisions, and the paths that we choose for ourselves. We also have an opportunity to decide what reactions and responses we’ll have to world as we interact and connect. We have the opportunity to be, believe, and achieve.

Your Response

What does the future hold for you? Where will you be in 5 years? Where will you be in 10 years?

What do your dreams and aspirations say about this future? How do you see your future unfolding, and how willing are you to take detours along the way?

Craft a response these thoughts and queries using any medium or mode that works for you. Over the past two months we’ve played with text, images, video, and audio. Play, explore, and express yourself using what fits the best.

Write a blog post that shares your thinking about where I’m going. As in previous learning events, upload your contribution using the #WalkMyWorld hashtag and keep close to the hashtag to see what others are sharing.

Please include #LE8 to indicate the learning event. You may also include a hashtag to recognize your own learning network.

A guiding example

As you consider your future, and the direction that you’re headed, you might want to take a look at the #soulselfie movement.

Soul selfies are one-minute-ish videos that people create and upload to YouTube and various social networks. The purpose of the videos is to:

  • Express your truth.
  • Allow your real, messy, multidimensional nature to be seen.
  • Liberate yourself from shame, fear, and perfectionism.
  • Celebrate and embrace your authenticity and wholeness.
  • Make space in our culture for the complexity and full range of our humanity.
